Where companies and people come from
Scalign creates companies and people from your recorded meetings, not by hand. How that works, what doesn't create a company, and how to add one that's missing.
Scalign builds your companies, people and buying committees from your meetings. There's nothing to create by hand: record a meeting with someone from a customer, and their company appears on Companies with everything that was said.
How a company is created
When a recorded meeting has someone from outside your organization on it, Scalign takes the domain of their email address (jane@acme.com becomes acme.com) and files the meeting under that company. If it's the first meeting with them, the company is created then. Where the people come from depends on how the meeting was recorded:
- The meeting assistant: the calendar invite and the people on the call.
- The desktop recorder: the calendar event it matched, or the people you add when you finalize the meeting.
- Imported meetings: the participants the other tool recorded. See Import meetings from another tool.
The company shows up once the meeting has been processed, usually a few minutes after it ends. A desktop recording that waits for you to finalize it adds its company when you do.
What doesn't create a company
- Your colleagues. Addresses at your own company's domain are your side of the table.
- Personal addresses such as gmail.com or outlook.com. They don't say which company someone works for, so add the person's work address instead.
- Connecting your CRM or your email. Scalign adds CRM and email context to companies you've met; it doesn't import accounts from them.
- A meeting that hasn't happened yet. Meeting prep for a first call is ready in your calendar beforehand, but the company is created once that call is recorded.
Add a company that's missing
You can't create a company by hand. If you've had a recorded meeting with them but the company isn't there, the meeting has nobody from their side with a work address. Add one:
- Open the recording and choose Meeting details from the menu in the top right.
- Under In the room, click Add and enter the person's work email. Their domain decides which company the meeting counts toward. Nobody is emailed.
- Save. The meeting is processed again and the company appears with it.
Haven't met them yet? Record your first meeting with them; until then there's no company page to open.
People and buying committees
Everyone from the customer's side who is on a recorded meeting becomes a person on that company, with their role and what they said. People who are only talked about, such as a manager who signs off, appear under Mentioned, never met in the buying committee until they join a meeting.
The same company twice
A company is keyed on its email domain, so one that uses two domains (acme.com and acme.no) can show up as two companies. Tell us which two and we'll merge them; the meetings, people and actions move over.
