Two people recorded the same meeting
When a colleague and you both record a call, Scalign keeps one recording with several transcripts. How to pick the one it uses, split merged meetings apart, and handle a recording in two halves.
When a colleague and you both record a call, or the assistant joins a meeting you also record with the desktop recorder, Scalign doesn't keep two recordings. It recognises the same meeting and keeps one recording with each transcript attached. This guide explains what that looks like, how to choose which transcript Scalign uses, and what to do when two different meetings were merged or your own recording arrived in two halves.
How Scalign merges recordings
- Two recordings count as the same meeting when they have the same meeting link and overlap in time, give or take about 15 minutes. An in-person recording has no link, so it is never merged with anything.
- The first recording to arrive owns the recording. Later ones are attached to it as extra transcripts rather than listed on their own.
- Everyone who recorded can open the recording, whatever its sharing setting. Changing who else sees it, and deleting it, is up to the owner and workspace admins; see Who sees your recordings.
- One transcript drives the summary and insights: the primary. Scalign picks the one with the most words and speakers, so a complete recording beats a partial one, and the assistant's transcript usually beats a desktop recording of the same call.
Pick which transcript Scalign uses
If the wrong recording became the primary, for example a colleague's recording that only caught the second half, switch it:
- Open the recording and choose Meeting details from the menu in the top right.
- Switch on Advanced at the bottom of the page.
- Under Transcript, pick the person whose recording should drive the analysis. The picker only appears when the meeting has more than one transcript.
- Click Save. The summary and insights are rewritten from that transcript.

Switching to a desktop recording brings its voices with it, so the recording may ask you to finalize again. The people you confirmed before are kept where the voices match; see Wrong or missing speaker names.
Two different meetings merged into one
Back-to-back meetings in the same link, such as a personal Meet room or a Zoom personal meeting ID, can land in one recording when they fall inside the overlap window. The summary then mixes two conversations. Split them apart:
- Open Meeting details and switch on Advanced.
- Click Split off a transcript and pick the transcript that belongs to the other meeting.
- The transcript becomes a recording of its own, owned by whoever recorded it, with the title and time of that recording. It is analysed again from scratch, and a desktop recording asks you to finalize, with only the recorder in the room to start with.
The primary transcript can't be split off. If the one you want to move is the primary, pick the other transcript under Transcript first, save, then split.
Your own recording is in two halves
If your network drops during an online meeting, the desktop recorder stops and can't resume on its own. When you start it again, the second half uploads as a separate recording, and the two halves are merged into one recording the same way. Only one half becomes the primary transcript, so the summary covers that half. Under Transcript you can switch to the other half to read it, but Scalign can't yet join the two halves into one summary.
